Turn to God

Song:

Same God by Elevation Worship featuring Jonsai Barrientes

Scripture:

Psalm 142

This Psalm is written by David as he is calling out to God in a time of extreme need. He was in a cave at this point in his life running and hiding from Saul. He is the definition of helplessness and hopelessness. So what does he do? He does what we SHOULD do in a time of need- he turns to God.

1.Re-read verses 1-3. How are you like David? What is your complaint that you need to bring to God?

2.In verse 7 David mentions a prison. You and I are probably not trapped in a cave hiding from a murderous king, but we all have mental or physical prisons. What is yours?

Friends-prayer is a powerful and essential tool as a Christian. In fact, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul reminds to “pray continually”. It is way that we praise God, thank him for what he blesses us with, and confess our sins. But supplication- asking him for our needs and desires-should be our first move when we find ourselves in a “prison”, not a “last resort”. Often, I try to figure things out by myself, stress out, worry and lose sleep, or even, complain to others when things aren’t going well. What do I need to do instead? I need to bring it to God first, just like David did. Just like this song asks us to.

Prayer:

Abba,

Your goodness knows no bounds. You are awesome and amazing!

Lord, I am an imperfect being who is broken. I have been struggling with ________________. Please forgive my sin(s).

Thank you for ____________, ________________ and _________________.There is no blessing too big or small that I will not be grateful to you for.

Lord, just like you answered so many prayers of those in the bible like David, Jacob, Moses and others, please hear my prayer. I am stuck in a prison of ________________________. Please provide (healing, power, rest) so that I may glorify your name because of your kindness to me.

Amen
