I am...
Song:
Who I am by Blanca
Scripture:
Psalm 139
1.Focus on verses 1-9. What does God know about us?
2.Re-read verses 13-16. When did God first know you?
3.In verses 23 and 24, what should we ask God to do?
The very first lyrics of this song hit me hard because I am someone who struggles with anxiety, depression and is easily hurt by other’s words. Fearful thoughts and thoughts of unworthiness used to rule my mind. After running towards Jesus for the last year, along with therapy, my mindset is finally starting to change for the better. This Psalm has always been important to me because it makes three powerful points that Blanca’s song echoes. The first half of the Psalm explains that God knows everything about you including your movements and your thoughts. This shows how powerful and magnificent He is! Second, He “knit you together in your mother’s womb” (vs. 13). God, the creator of the heavens and the earth also created you. He doesn’t make mistakes. Therefore, be confident in His decisions and embrace who you are so you can use your talents to glorify Him. Finally, the end of the Psalm guides us to ask God to change our sinful hearts and minds. It is a great reminder that we need to constantly pursue Him. This allows us to disciple others by showcasing this amazing and wonderful God who loves us even when we don’t always love ourselves.
Prayer:
Dear Mighty God,
You are awesome and amazing. I want to pursue you daily. Help me defeat the negative thoughts in my mind so I can see myself how you see me. Change my heart and my mind so I can help others find peace and joy in you.
Amen
