God is Faithful
Song:
Promises by Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine, Joe L. Barnes
Scripture:
Lamentations 3:1-33
In Verses 1-20, Jeremiah, the author of the book, complains about how the Israelites have suffered under Babylonian captivity. “He” in these verses is God. While this is a difficult view of God; the suffering is relatable.
1.Thankfully, Jeremiah changes the tune starting in verses 21. What are three promises of God in these verses?
2.Verse 23: When can we hope for God’s love and compassion?
Friends, how do you remain committed to God when it seems like everything is going wrong? After one really bad day of being a mom, I struggle to remember that God is in control. But what if it is a bad week? Month? Year? How do you hang on that long? How do you not lose hope or faith in God? What happens when anger and resentment start to consume you?
Thankfully, God promises compassion, love and faithfulness. How is God compassionate? There are lots of verses on this, but one of my favorites is Psalm 34:18-18: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;” And we only need to look at John 3:16 for the extent of God's great love. Knowing this, we can wake up every morning with hope because he provided the gift of grace. Jesus died on the cross so we can have eternal life. Every morning we can wake up with joy (Psalm 30:5) and thank God we have another day to live and experience his perfect compassion, love and faithfulness. Cling to these promises and let them comfort you when you are suffering.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Today I am suffering.
Thank you for your compassion, mercy, and faithfulness.
Help me to always turn to you and remember your promises in these times of need.
Amen
